Buffy the Vampire Slayer is to be resurrected by Joss Whedon for the big screen Herald-Sun has claimed.

Buffy was an Emmy-Award Winning American cult television series that aired from March 10, 1997 until May 20, 2003 that propelled it's cast, in particular Sarah Michelle Gellar to stardom.

However the character did begin as a movie in 1992 starring Kirsty Swanson.

But vampire driven stories are big at the box office currently as Twilight, the adaptation of Stephenie Meyers' popular novel, stormed the US box office grossing $70 million, it was only expected to take $50 million.

Joss Whedon is supposed to have a script, based on the TV show, all ready and is now just waiting for the project to be given the go ahead.
