Katie Holmes is to perform on a US TV dance contest.
The 30-year-old actress is in talks to appear in Fox's 'So You Think You Can Dance' - which sees a group of dancers compete for a cash prize and the title of America's Favourite Dancer - which would involve her doing a one-off routine. A source said: "She's met with judge and producer Nigel Lythgoe and everyone hopes she appears on this season or next season of the show." Katie - who has a three-year-old daughter Suri with husband Tom Cruise - has been spotted paying several visits to Hollywood dance studios over recent weeks, seemingly in preparation for her appearance. Katie's love of dance is well known. Last year, she made her return to TV with an all-singing, all-dancing part in US TV show 'Eli Stone'. Steve McPherson - president of ABC, the US TV network that airs 'Eli Stone' - said at the time: "There's actually some singing and dancing she does and she's exquisite. I saw her do a read-through and she was fabulous." Source contactmusic |

![]() It’s official! Katie Holmes will perform on So You Think You Can Dance in celebration of the FOX show’s 100th episode, airing July 23, in a song and dance tribute to Judy Garland. While buzz about her appearance began when photos of Holmes clad in dance gear at the CBS studios in L.A. hit the web last month, it wasn’t her first visit to the show. “She absolutely adores dancing as does her daughter,” according to executive producer Nigel Lythgoe, who said Holmes and her daughter Suri, 3, have been visiting the show’s dress rehearsals for a couple of years now. Recently, Holmes has been rehearsing herself, sometimes until 11:30 p.m. — with breaks to be with Suri, Lythgoe says — on a New York street scene designed for the number, which was lit by famed cinematographer Dion Beebe, with direction and choreography by her friend, Tyce Diorio. Inspired by Garland’s song “Get Happy” from the 1950s musical Summer Stock, Holmes will wear “the jacket, the little hat,” Lythgoe says. “It’s just an iconic look. And Katie Holmes has got the legs. Wow!” Proud husband Tom Cruise and Suri were often on hand to support Holmes. “It was great to see the sort of family bond,” Lythgoe says. “It was beautiful to see!” Adds Lythgoe: “It was the pride in Tom’s eyes, which I liked. I think we all stood around and felt very proud.” And why not? All the hard work (Holmes got vocal training from American Idol musical director Ricky Minor) was done in the name of charity, as her performance will introduce the public to the Dizzy Feet Foundation, which she co-founded with Lythgoe, Hairspray director Adam Shankman and Dancing with the Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba. The organization’s mission is to support, improve and increase access to dance education in the United States. “I think it’s important for children to experience music and dance,” Holmes said in a statement. “Every child should have the opportunity to discover what it is they like and have access to the very best in that pursuit.” And how would Holmes’s performance rate with the often unforgiving SYTYCD judges? “I think she would wow the judges and she’d certainly wow the public,” Lythgoe says. “And if anybody didn’t pick the phone up [and vote] for her, I’d be very surprised." ![]() Katie Holmes paid homage to the legendary Judy Garland in a big way on Thursday's So You Think You Can Dance, performing her much-anticipated song-and-dance tribute to "Get Happy." "I don't think she's ever looked more beautiful," judge Mary Murphy told Usmagazine.com after Holmes' performance as part of the SYTYCD results show in Los Angeles. "She reminded me of regal Old Hollywood." WATCH KATIE HOLMES PERFORM ON SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE. As Us previously reported, Holmes danced and sang to Garland's "Get Happy" from the 1950s musical Summer Stock, wearing an all-black ensemble similar to one Garland once wore. The routine was conceived by Emmy-nominated choreographer and Holmes' pal, Tyce Diorio. At one point in the routine, Holmes -- who also pranced around in a black velvet fedora, nylon stockings and body-hugging skirt -- was lifted over three dancers' heads. For her finish, she tossed her hat in the air, and one of the other male dancers -- which included SYTYCD alums Mark Kanemura and Joshua Allen -- caught it. Check out photos of stars dancing! Garland's son, Joey Luft, was in attendance at Thursday's taping and saw Holmes' tribute to his late mom. "I bet Judy Garland's giving [Katie] a standing ovation in heaven," Murphy said. Holmes signed on to perform for the show's 100th episode after judge/executive producer Nigel Lythgoe approached her to join the board of directors for his Dizzy Feet Foundation, which offers scholarships to underprivileged youth. "She put herself out there and she didn't have to do that, so I'm very delighted in her performance," Lythgoe told Us of the actress, who donated her full performance fee to Dizzy Feet Foundation. "I think it is important to experience music and dancing and singing and the arts and sports," Holmes said on the show. "This is the next generation. I think it is important to give them every opportunity to grow and discover what it is that they like and to have access to the best. " Look back at Katie Holmes' most memorable roles. After her TV performance, Lythgoe says Holmes has been bitten by the dancing bug. "Katie's really taken to dancing," the judge said. "She is filming a movie in Australia and called me and said, 'I have found some great classes to take in Melbourne while I'm here.' She got really hooked on it!" Source Us Weekly |

I have to say I was super surprised when she was singing and dancing although I"m sure it wasn't "live" on the singing the fact is she did put herself out there and she did do it and did a pretty good job at it. I would have rather had the "live" version though.
