Nicole Richie and Khloe Kardashian have begun a war of words on Twitter.

The reality TV stars, who reportedly grew up together, started a joke row on the social networking site on Wednesday that escalated over the following two days.

According to Us Magazine, Kardashian initially wrote: "Someone is on fuego tonight!!!" to which Richie replied: "And that someone is me!"

After seeing a picture of Kardashian's mother Kris Jenner, Richie then wrote to her: "My favorite Kardashian PS You're going way down the list... but it's fine, you've hated me since we were 7."

Kardashian later wrote: "Karma is a b*tch!!! The tables have completely turned. Just when you became my number 1 I am now your number 7. A girl shall settle... I have no one to blame but myself."
