Where would helpless pups be without Gavin DeGraw? The musician was in L.A. last week promoting his new single, when a TMZ spy spotted him saving a stray dog. Aw!

After seeing that the deserted pup was not doing too well, we're told Gavin and his brother Joey went into rescue mode. According to Gavin's dad, "Gavin and Joey took the stray to the vet in their car, and shared in the costs for medical care. They arranged a new home for the dog with a friend's dad."

Never mind the rabies, a dog's life was on the line!
