Robin Williams has checked himself out of rehab in an attempt to win his wife back.

Marsha is said to have told him that unless he sorted out his alcohol problems then she would leave him, leading to his publicist to announce in July that Williams had taken "proactive measures for his own well-being and the well-being of his family".

Following his 60-day stint at Oregon's Hazelden Springbrook clinic, the National Enquirer reports that Williams has moved in with a "sober companion" as part of his next stage in adjusting to life out of the clinic.

According to the Daily Mail, he will be watched over 24 hours a day for the next three months to make sure that he doesn't fall off the wagon again.

A friend of the Mrs Doubtfire actor is reported to have told the National Enquirer: "Instead of going home to his wife and two teenage children in Napa Valley, he's moved to Los Angeles, where he's renting an apartment and living with a 'sober companion'."

Williams is currently starring as a radio talkshow host in The Night Listener, a dark story which questions the line between reality and illusion.
